OUGD603: Plusnet wall mural

Brief:
Students are invited to submit a design for a mural to transform the wall at Plusnet Leeds. The mural should represent the character and core values of Plusnet as outlined by Gemma Syrett (employee at Plusnet). The design can be influenced by but not necessarily need to directly use the branding.

Some of the key words from the presentation included.
- bright
- colourful
- welcoming
- straightforward
- no fuss
- human touch
- humorous
- characteristics of Yorkshire
- challenging the norm

The design needs to be site specific, with the size, shape and specifics of the wall in mind.
Designs are to be submitted by email on 10th of April. Either JPEG or PDF A3 -75 DPI
email info@peterbarber.co.uk

The designs will be presented on the 13 April with a short description of the rational behind the design. Plusnet staff will choose the preferred design and then all participating students will be given opportunity to work on the mural.

Deadline: 10th April

My initial idea was to introduce calligraphic writing on the wall to add a hand drawn element to the mural, consisting of organic strokes and brush marks. The growing circles emitting words from a central point on ground level represent air waves and signal transmissions.

I developed this idea to relate more to Yorkshire by looking in to the topography and geographical landscape, noticing the varied hills and peaks in the county.

I pitched this design to some of the Plusnet staff along with Sharon, Louise and Pete, who were there to ask me questions about the design in front of the panel of judges. A few weeks on, unfortunately my design wasn't chosen however I'm looking forward to helping Pete and the other artists paint the wall this June.
