I've highlighted a few key phrases in the following articles that I found relevant to my topic of research. They review what the media cover and what the media present to the audience online; often reality is distorted through this medium to a point where the audience believe this is the normal way to live.
This first article explores what Russian citizens are exposed to due to the laws Putin has instated. The television channels available to them only show what their leader wants them to see, keeping them 'hooked and emotionally involved'. This is a technique I am too familiar with in areas of Europe and America where reality TV stars are obsessed over and followed; seen as role models.
Another article I found talks about the negative effects of reality TV. This states the content should be censored to young audiences to prevent "diminishing ones viewpoint of actual reality".
Jessica Winter has written about how people can develop a relationship with Facebook and Instagram that involved "loitering around other's photos"...
Studies have also been conducted that explore the relationship between individual's self esteem and self presentation in relation to social media websites.
Even bloggers are posting about the reality of social media - it isn't real.
