what is the potential of interactivity in print?
it can either provide an experience where the audience physically engages with the printed matter, or where digital applications can be incorporated to provide a joint encounter with both printed and digital media. this leads to a lot of potential for designers to create something that engages with the audience in a time when there's too much choice for users to absorb
can augmented design help draw people to your website?
yes if it's used effectively in a way that engages with the audience in the first place, however it has to be a suitable design for the target audience to attract the people that will be interested in the content of the website
is it all just a bit gimmicky, or are there opportunities?
i think a lot of the augmented reality where placing a phone onto a printed document is gimmicky and unnecessary, however there are some advantages of clever interactive design. there are many opportunities for augmented design as there's a variety of engaging things a smartphone or tablet can offer, especially in a world where technology is second nature to most of us.
what kind of interactivity would be effective for my campaign?
an piece of print that interacts with the audience by requiring them to compare in some way would be most fitting as it hints at what my website's purpose is
Overall I think augmented reality seems a bit pointless because it doesn't really make you feel as if you are experiencing it for real, and the novelty gets a bit boring once you've got over the initial idea of it. To me it would only be helpful for taking the user to the website on their phone by scanning the image. Interacting with print is much better and can be done in several ways that engage people and promote a positive user experience, in turn creating an impression that will be remembered.
